Last night the whole family went to see daughter perform her piano recital. She was fabulous of course. We were all so proud of her. I was sitting next to son. During the spaces between I kept trying to convince him to help me use a new gadget I have at home by reading the manual for me. Afterwards we came back to my house for a little chitchat and hang out. Surprisingly, the ex volunteered to demonstrate the usage of the gadget, which is FAR preferable to me than reading a damn manual. Who learns like that? Not me. So we are going along and ex says, Well, on this part you are just going to have to read the manual I feel my heart sinking, softly weeping no no no god, please, no. Not the MANUAL. It is at that moment that son sells me out. Shes not going to do it dad. She already was trying to get me to read the manual for her at the performance. The ex just looks at me. I can tell he thinks I am ridiculous, trying to get son to read the manual for me. Goddammit! I just want him to show me how to operate the thing. Seriously? She really asked you to read the manual for her he asks. They are talking about me like I am not there. Yep. Says son. They look at each other in that male electronic equipment bonding way. But I dont care. I bite my thumb at them. Manual readers! The ex is laughing. Son says, How did you ever deal with this dad? Ex looks at me. I stare back with the you-better-do-right-by-me-babe look. He is smiling at me. I dont know son, I just did. I just did.
